Apparently while I was chowing down at Hill Country BBQ last night, so was someone else. Someone by the name of Bill Clinton! I'm bummed about my missed encounter, but the food was DELICIOUS (though don't try the corn pudding as it gets all stuck up in your teeth!) Excerpt from eater.com: A former US president who loves him some delicious barbecue. From the celebrity tipline: "So I just left Hill Country BBQ where I was watching the Lakers/Celtics game and there was a special guest in attendance...President Bill Clinton! No Chelsea with him, however he was in Chelsea...ironic!? He was there watching the game, and he stayed pretty much to the end. There were three secret service hanging around." Besides not making any sense whatsoever, I'm also perplexed as to who their target demographic is. Incidently I did NOT get carded when I puchased two tallboys here. Tags: photo beer

Ever wonder what that shiny rainbow color on your cured meat is? I always thought that it meant that the meat was of a lower quality or somehow perhaps tainted. But I was seriously mis-informed! It is natural phenomenon in cured meat (and some fresh meat). Technically, this is referred to as birefringence. It is caused by the reflectance of light off of muscle proteins, and it is analogous to the color distribution produced by a prism. Muscle proteins are arranged in strands called myofilaments, which are bound together to form myofibrils. Myofibrils are bound together to form muscle fibers, which form together to form muscle bundles and finally whole muscles. When the myofilaments are cut at the appropriate angle, exposing a cross section of the myofilaments, the reflectance of light off the proteins produces the characteristic appearance associated with iridescence. Some people have asked me why I need more than one shower head in my shower. My responses have been a combination of the following statements: a) more is better b) to pressure blast all dirt from my body c)why are you asking me this stupid question and finally when it becomes evident that they don't understand/are appalled by my unscrupulous waste of water I hit them with the home improvement line. My shower (amazingly) delivers approximately 5.5 gallons per minute and as you may or may not know, it is illegal to sell shower heads in the US that deliver more than 2.5gpm. You can "hack" your shower head by removing the washer and making the hole in the head larger by means of knife/drill/etc... but you'll probably only get another 1gpm from doing that. My problem is that since 5.5gpm>3.5gpm I have about 2gpm coming out of the bottom bath spigot in my shower causing the enamel to errode in the tub. So...getting a second shower head is really just a matter of improving my apartment and therefore a justified and smart purchase, not a vain one. I'm actually not wasting water, I'm saving water because I am redirecting the wasted 2gpm back up to the shower head so I will need less water to shower.
it's love at first shower...

I don't listen to much hip hop but occasionally I find a band(?)/group/ artist that I really like (ex. Nuclear Family). I've been listening to The Cool Kids recently and actually missed their show at the Knitting Factory last weekend when I was in Florida. They're playing Rock the Belles this summer at Jones Beach but that venue is MASSIVE (and tickets are expensive and I don't have a car). The Cool Kids are a hip hop due from Chicago and Detroit. All of their music had previously been released through their myspace page, but have no signed to Chocolate Industries. They caught a break when they performed at CMJ (NYC) and the Pitchfork Music Festival (Chicago) in 2007. I've been listening to their "All Flossed Out" EP and just downloaded their self produced "Bake Sale" EP out this week on the aforementioned label, available on iTunes. And because I'm awesome, you can get these two albums here: All Flossed out Bake Sale Tags: music

This is what I get to see standing right in front of me on my way home today on the 5 train. The girl coudln't even bend over to pick up her shoes (she changed from flip flops to heels). They also had a lengthy conversation about how good she looked in those pants. Tags: photo nyc

I went to Florida this past weekend and saw a number of things I wish I had my camera for. I did snap this shot of the platform at Jamaica on Friday afternoon on my way to JFK. So jealous of all the super cool folks heading to the hamptons ... NOT. BTW it only takes a half hour more to get to Florida than it does to get to Southamton.
