Remember that game Hungry Hungry Hippo where you were a hippo and your goal was to eat as many of the balls in the communal circular area? That's how I felt today. How much could I eat before a)my stomach explodes and b)I have a stroke from all the fatty food I'm eating. 10:30 - breakfast at home 11:30 - Kueh tu tu (a coconut filled cake), soya milk and chicken sukiyaki (because I felt sick from all the sugar) 2:30- porridge and dim sum 5 - Laksa at my grand aunty's house 8 - Durians My exercise consisted of flagging down taxis and walking down 5 flights of stairs to my grand auntys apartment (here in Singapore, the elevator doesn't stop on every floor - only the lobby, 6 and 11). And now, time for bed with a full belly

I've finally arrived in Singapore (actually I arrived yesterday morning). No troubles with my flights and the only complaint I had was that the flight attendants wake you up even if you're not eating so that you can put your seat up so the person behind you can eat (annoying for people like me who just want to sleep but amazing for people who are eating). Yesterday my Mom pimped me out and I had to go to my grand uncle's house to help him do computer/tech stuff since he let her and her friend stay at his house during the Singapore Grand Prix when my mom's friend couldn't find a hotel. It wasn't all bad because they took us out for lunch at this Japanese place where my Grand Aunt knows the owner. It was a "buffet" but a la carte - so basically all you can eat, but you just order what you want to eat off the menu - all for S$33 (~$22 USD). As soon as we sat down, we had a salmon tartare, edamame and 6 other small appetizer dishes thrust infront of us. Over the next two hours, they brought us (without us ordering anything)a whole bunch of food that I've never eaten before...Salmon Belly (my new fav) and swordfish sashimi, fried Hamachi cheek, grilled and marinated salmon head, deep fried battered anchovies, a teapot soup, and a seafood soup served over coals in a piece of tin foil (pic below). We also had some stuff that I had had before like hamachi, toro, pumpkin & sweet potatoe tempura, fried rice and a tempura roll. All in all, the best Japanese meal I've ever had!

I'm about to go to the airport (in 15 minutes). While everyone is jealous about my trip, think about this. I'll be on the plane around 8:30pm, when you go to sleep, I'll still be on the plane. When you wake up and go to work - I'll still be on the plane. When you go home from work (assuming you have semi normal 9-5/6 jobs) I'll still be on the plane. Yeah, all of a sudden you're not so jealous...

So I'm leaving for vacation tomorrow night and will be gone for 3 weeks. I will attempt to blog as I go, but internet connections are always spotty in asia. The hotels claim to have Wi-Fi, but I've heard that claim many times before. For anyone that cares, this is my itinerary: Oct 1 - Flight to Singapore Oct 3 - Arrive in Singapore Oct 4 - Cousin's Wedding in S'pore Oct 7-11 - Kota Kinabalu Oct 11-18 - Sipidan/Mabul Oct 18-21 - Singapore (?)

Call them crazy, but a group of producers are convinced that Bret Easton Ellis's violently satirical novel American Psycho will make a fabulous Broadway musical adaptation. Snicker if you must, but remember that naysayers also dismissed the novel as un-filmable, and that ended up getting a lot of critical acclaim. Of course, producers still need to contract a couple hacks to write the book and music, and they don't yet have the rights to those Genesis and Huey Lewis songs, either. But producer David Johnson (a former MGM exec) tells Variety the timing couldn't be more perfect: "Now in particular it seems relevant, especially given what's happening on Wall Street." He also tells Hollywood Reporter he wants the production to be "very real, (though) obviously exaggerated." Which can only mean that the first few rows in the Bateman splatter zone will receive commemorative ponchos, just like Evil Dead: The Musical! From Gothamist You'll find me in the splatter zone for sure!

Dear Ms Neighbor- It would be greatly appreciated if you would turn off the alarm that is going off in your kitchen before you leave for a 5 day holiday (maybe more?). Having an alarm go off for five straight days drives your neighbors nuts and makes them go crazy. Even when we are not at home, we can still hear the beeping in our heads. You managed to remember to turn off your bedroom alarm clock (the one that does turn off automatically after a few hours) but not the one that has no automatic shut off. I also want to take this moment to remind you that this is NOT the first time this has happened. In fact, this is the 3rd time since I moved in in January. This is unacceptable neighbor behavior! I hope that you enjoy waking up early because when I go away next weekend I will be setting my alarm clock to go off at 5:30 every morning and not to the pleasant sounds of NPR, nay it will be the annoying and horrific buzzer. Sincerely, 11B
