The Department of Health has just released a study concluding that Upper East Siers "boast a staggering 31 percent who exercise five to seven times a week - far above the citywide average of 19 percent". Also interesting, "statistics show an alarming 20 percent of those living in the trendy Brooklyn neighborhood are prone to binge [drinking]". take that hipsters! ok, i'm not really sure what that was meant to prove but i found it intersting no less. unfortunately, i (as well as many of my friends) are being down that average.

Near the coffee machine at work there is a table where many people put magazines/books/cds/movies they no longer want. These are either people's personal items or things that were sent to the company for review. Through this one magazine, Quizfest, I have learned an IMMENSE amount of information about myself and my crush. For instance, I am a mediocre friend, my type of guy is a "sensitive sweetie"(ex. Rupert (from harry potter), Corbin (from high school musical 3), Penn (from gossip girl), Ne-Yo, and Stephen (from Laguna Beach)), I frequently wear faded jeans which means I am energetic, spontenous and adventurous and that I am a "Balanced Babe" (i have alot of common sense, and don't rely on my friends for everything but they're there when i need them). Also, my horoscope for the fall is: Love: Sparks will fly when you meet a cute new guy this fall, so keep your eyes peeled! Buds: This is a good time for you to join a new club. You'll make lots of friends you totally click with. Luck: Tap into your creative side and it will bring you lots of luck! Libra Guy: This charming guy will be feeling extra-flirty this fall

Captain's Log, Stardate November 4, 2008. Election Day. Besides my new deep fryer (see below), today is a pretty busy day. I went to vote this morning (at the Mormon Church), then on my way to work, I got sneezed on by a dirty man at Penn Station. Am I secretly being punished for the way I voted this morning? It wasn't like he sneezed in my general area, it was like he looked at me and then sneezed on my face. I ran to work to wash my face. Tonight I'll be doing vote entry for the elections at work. I'm working on Minnesota, South Dakota and North Dakota. And no, I can't fudge the results since a supervisor/verification team supervisor has to check all my final vote counts. Gmail also has a few new things going on in their Labs section. The most useful ones for me include the addition of the Google Calendar gadget to the left pane, the drag and drop re-ordering of gadgets (so that Calendar would be right below my inbox), as well as Mail Goggles (so you don't drunk email your friends) I'm also trying to get some new apps for my iPhone - I'm digging FakeCalls (you can set a time for your phone to ring you back so you can get out of a horrible date, various obligations and the like), Tap Tap Revenge (guitar hero-esque), MyLite (turns your screen into a flashlight) and Knots.

Last night I picked up a deep fryer for my apartment. I think I am in love. Seriously. It was love at first bite. Last night I battered up some wings, tossed them in the fryer and after twenty minutes (10 prep, 10 cook) I had some kick ass buffalo wings. And 3 minutes later, I was scalding the roof of my mouth on some ridiculously hot (and tasty) fries - unfortuantely, I had left an empty bottle of malt vinegar in the cabinet and had to go with just plain salted fries which were delicious anyway. Next on my list of things to fry up...fish & chips, mac & cheese, crab cakes, fish tacos, donuts(?), sweet potatoe fries, scallops and plaintains. I cannot wait for my mandoline to arrive on Thursday! Then I will be a deep frying maniac.

Why is it that when I get drunk my fingernails are always filthy the next day? If you ever want to know how much I drank the night before, just inspect my fingernails in the morning. The dirtier the nails, the more I've been drinking. My fingernails were filthy this morning.

Serious Eats: New York just posted an article about the new Lucky Strike Lanes open on W.42nd St and 12th Ave. Here are some of the things you CAN'T wear to the bowling alley: - Althetic wear, sweats or sports jerseys
- MC colors
- Excessively baggy clothing (Tuck-ins are not permitted)
- Sleeveless T-shirts
- Plain white T-shirts (short or long sleeve)
- Construction boots
- Headgear
- Chains
- Ripped or soiled clothing
While I understand the ban on some of these things (ex. soiled clothing), I'm not really sure why you can't wait plain white t-shirts or chains. Does a yarmulke or turban count as headgear? What are MC colors and tuck-ins? Since when did bowling alleys become so strict?

I shared this via Google Reader, but I know a lot of you out there don't use it so I figured I'd do the double share. This article ran on Gothamist Yesterday: Last week, the police investigated the NY Times building after a letter with a suspicious white powder (later found to be harmless) was delivered to editorial page editor Andrew Rosenthal. This afternoon, Reuters editor Brian Rhoads opened an envelope and a "puff of powder" came out. Reuters reported that Rhoads was isolated and "140 members of staff [were told] to leave as a precautionary measure while they investigate." Who's next--the AP? Or the Wall Street Journal--or one of the tabloids? Like the NY Times, Reuters is located in Times Square, at 3 Times Square. If proper research had been done, it would've been noted that the AP can't be next because uh, we already had an Anthrax scare last year. A package came into the photo department with white powder and Hazmat was here investigating the thing. Meanwhile, nobody was allowed to leave the floor. If anyone's keeping track, we also had a bomb scare last November.
